From 1982 I was a partner in a plumbing business was a plumber by trade then in 1993, I was invited to a trading presentation, which I had to attend in person as we did not have internet nor cell phones. I was sold to the idea and the course cost me R10000.00!
I did the course and hired a trading screen from Reuters which had to be connected via a telephone line for me to begin trading. I had to deposit R50000.00 into a stockbrokers account. To trade, I had to phone the stockbroker to place my trade and a trade was R1000.00 a point. It was hectic. Needless to say, I did not trade much in those days.
Then technology improved and now we are where we are today. The platforms are user friendly and there are many to choose from.
For years I couldn’t trade during the day as I was always busy with my plumbing business so I used to trade at night. Four years ago I decided to hang up my toolbox. I gave my business to my staff and “retired” to Hilton.
I have been trading full time since then.
I have been asked what I have learnt so far from trading?
In a nutshell, I have learned the key strengths required are Practice (if you are a golfer you will understand), Patience, Responsibility, Trust, Courage and Calm because trading needs your full attention.
If your mind is somewhere else DO NOT TRADE!
Ultimately Opportunity is a huge factor; I have learnt that trading is such an opportunity to grow. If we want to make money… We have to be disciplined… We have to be in the moment… We have to concentrate.
I look forward to coaching you to manage the challenges of trading by learning from my experience.
