Firstly, it's very important to understand that feeling regret and guilt after losing a loved one is normal and most grievers experience that feeling. The feeling of guilt can show up in many ways:
- Guilt for not being able to get them medical attention sooner.
- Guilt for not spending enough time with them when they were still alive.
- Guilt for not being on good terms with them before they passed on.
-Guilt for not telling them you loved them the last time you spoke on the phone.
I am here to remind you that you are only human, and at any given point in time, you do what you feel is best with the knowledge and wisdom you possess. So no, the guilt is not irrational - but it is not always based on truth. Be kinder to yourself and remember how human you are, it's not easy to release the guilt but it's worthwhile to be intentional about it. You deserve compassion, love, and forgiveness- especially from yourself.
I am here to help you.
