Everybody
by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins
A bold and contemporary reimagining of a medieval classic, audiences are invited to experience ‘Everybody’, the acclaimed play by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. Inspired by the 16th-century morality play Everyman, this striking adaptation brings a centuries-old story into sharp focus for today’s world.
In the original Everyman, a character is summoned by Death and forced to account for their life. In a powerful theatrical twist, Jacobs-Jenkins reinvents this journey for our own era. In a fast-paced, hyperconnected, globalised world driven by productivity, consumerism, and digital identity, Everybody asks us to pause. It challenges us to consider what has lasting value beyond status, possessions, and carefully curated social media personas.
In a time marked by global uncertainty, climate anxiety, political division, war, and widening inequality, Everybody gently but firmly asks: What endures? Who stands beside us when everything else is stripped away?
Both playful and profound, Everybody offers audiences an engaging theatrical experience that is at once ancient and unmistakably modern, a reminder that while the world may change, the deepest human questions remain.
