Those of us who enjoy walking in the forests around World's View observe many seasonal changes ' and surprises ' causing food for thought and often much pleasure. Of course there's always the not-so-pleasant surprises too, but let's kick off with one of the good stories''
Harvesting ' the felling of trees in the plantations ' takes place regularly. After the trees have been felled, trimmed, sorted and carted away the area is subsequently cleared and the undergrowth burned. Our bull mastiff, Petal (named so by the SPCA!) who revels in her daily forest walks was nose-down, disappearing from the trail. She found a pool of water the size of a small swimming pool. The pool is fed by an underground spring; obviously the recent rains had increased the size of the pool due to there being no trees to suck up any water.
We wonder if Petal's Puddle pictured below, is this the source of the Dorpspruit? After discussions between WVC and NCT it has been agreed to leave the area either side of the spruit as grassland. One small success for World's View Conservancy! The story above was submitted by Maurice & Pat Wilkinson of Maypers bed and breakfast, Dunstan Place where you can enjoy peaceful accommodation at the woodlands edge. Date for your diary - Saturday 30 April 08H00 ' Clean-up of the area around the pool known as Petal's Puddle. Meet at 2 World's View road if you are able to participate.
