Jemma Aldworth, a Form 4 St Anne's girl, recently returned from Malawi where she organised a school library at Riverside Primary School in Nchalo; an area that was badly affected in the recent floods which left hundreds of thousands of Malawians displaced. Mr Ignatius Phiri, Board Chairman at Riverside, writes that Jemma "donated her time and talent" to organising their school library and says she is a "true jewel!" Jemma approached STEPP, the St Anne's Education in Partnership Programme, in the 1st Term regarding her project whereby she gained access to 10 boxes of books, imported by STEPP and subsidised through Books for Africa. STEPP had also campaigned for a stationery collection at the end of last year; that stationary was donated to three schools, Riverside being one of them. Co-ordinating the transportation of the books and stationery from the SA to Malawi was no mean feat. The enormous potential reached through the determination of one person demonstrates what can be achieved when you choose to act in the interest of others.
