OLD SCHOOL (7pm)
This group of St Charles junior school musicians is what MiTH is all about! We enjoyed the strains of their senior school counterparts a few weeks ago – now the real youngsters get a chance to shine among some of KZN’s top artists. They are an old School cover band including Matthew Urquhart– guitar and vocals, Matthew Peel – drums, Alex Khun – bass guitar, Thejas Nirghin – Piano and Nikhil Darson – Electric guitar. Major influences include AC/DC, Eagles and Bon Jovi so this should lift the roof! The band will be celebrating an awesome year of Friday Jam sessions. “We will rock you,” they say!
RYNO THERON (7:30pm)
Ryno’s musical project's name is “Voicelessness,” and the genre he plays known as guitar-driven Ambient Post Rock. Major influences include Pink Floyd, Sleepmakeswaves, Robert Fripp and Perry Frank. This is a solo musical project, which Ryno finally got started after many years playing for numerous Durban bands of all genres. While writing and tracking his album he got deeper and deeper into ambient, atmospheric music.. As a result that has influenced most of the song writing. He released his debut full length album late last month, and has received wonderful feedback. The album downloads are going well too. Now Ryno is looking to promote the album, and play as many amazing venues as possible. “I feel very Blessed to be on this journey, and excited to play this music for as many different people as possible,” he concludes.
SERROTONE (8pm)
Pete Guthrie vocalist and a prolific songwriter with Spoonfeedas for 12 years has teamed up with James Robertson and close friend, superb drummer Billy Kruger. Robertson who sang and wrote material for Spoonfeedas in 2001, also went on to form Cubic Inch. Between Guthrie and Robertson they have been part of writing and performing more than10 charting singles (including 2 no 1 singles and a handful of top 10's) on South African radio. With Spoonfeedas Guthrie has opened for artists like Muse, Velvet Revolver, Simple Plan and Metallica. He has also performed the National anthem in Christchurch NZ before a Trinations rugby test. James has opened for Bryan Adams on his SA tour with his band Cubic Inch while Billy has played with a variety of established artists at some impressive events like the Youth Day concert in Amsterdam with group MIC where they performed after Delirious at Ajax Football Stadium in front of 140 000 people. A hugely special feature on Wednesday will be what has become the regular inclusion of Nick Ames who is possibly one of the finest trumpet players in South Africa. Don't miss this special night out, to hear some new arrangements of old favourites and some brand new material!
ANTIONIO RAVELL BAND (9pm)
Antonio Ravell is a Cape Town born Durban resident that has been gigging on the local circuit in KZN for the several years with his Rock/Blues bands Electric ARC and the Antonio Ravell Band. He brings his band back to MiTH, where his raspy rock vocal and bluesy rock licks never fail to complement his witty on-stage presence. Make sure you get to hear the singer of House of the Rising Sugarman!
This vocalist, guitarist and songwriter does a combination of catchy covers and also writing and performing his own music expressing musical styles that are not influenced by current trends juxtaposed with lyrics containing a message that is relevant to the world we live in. Known to write songs that are remorseful and full of irony, his newer work takes on issues such as the state of South Africa, war and peace and the end of the world.
Antonio is Influenced by guitarists such as Mark Knopfler and Keith Richards and with a hat-doff to a bit of Jagger in the vocals delivers something familiar yet different. Working with the best available local musos, one can expect rock, blues, funk and jazzy twists with curious lyrics that may tease your senses.
