Wildlands Recycling Depot has run into challenges at the Quarry and Cowan House Villages, with local residents abusing the allowance to drop off unsorted recycling.Effectively, residents have started using these villages as dump sites.
The problem started last year and really escalated over December, with the team having to remove over 4 000 kgs of rubbish, including dead pets, building rubble, appliances, etc.
This cannot continue and Wildlands are now forced to only accept sorted recycling.
This will be an inconvenience to some residents, but those serious about recycling will happily take the time to separate their items at the village.
Over the next 2 weeks Wildlands will be expanding the Quarry Village to make it easier to separate recyclables on arrival.
Wildlands offer this as a public service and subsidise it heavily.
The Quarry and Cowan House have embraced the movement and are very supportive. It would be tragic if these villages closed due to ongoing abuse.
