When the paramedics arrived on the scene, Ingrid was found unconscious and had to be sedated due to the severe head and back injuries she sustained. She was then taken to St. Annes Hospital in Pietermaritzburg, where she is currently in ICU.
A long road to recovery
While doctors predict Ingrid’s body will recover from the traumatic ordeal she has experienced, she has suffered brain damage, the full extent of which is yet to be determined.
To help the Flint family cover any medical expenses not covered by their medical aid, as well as the lengthy rehabilitation Ingrid will need to get back on her feet, a fellow cyclist, has launched a crowdfunding campaign on BackaBuddy, to appeal to the public for support.
Funds raised will be used to ensure that Ingrid gets the best possible treatment and has a chance to fully recover.
Through generous donations from 65 donors both locally and abroad, over R70 000 has been raised towards Ingrid’s rehabilitation, estimated to cost around R750 000.
“Ingrid, wife to Wally, mum to us 3 kids and an incredible grandmother to 5 almost 6 grandchildren, has always been a very strong and determined person; anything she sets her mind on she achieves. Thankfully she was at the fittest she had ever been before the accident which we hope will play an integral part in her recovery. It is going to be a very long recovery for her based on the injuries she sustained but we believe that she will never stop fighting” – says Ingrid’s daughter, Lauren.
