Sand in a polystyrene tray is a wonderful medium to use to develop writing and drawing skills. Not only are the children able to experiment with the movements and control of their finger and hand muscles, but they are also able to keep wiping clean any errors and trying again, without the frustration that often comes when children make marks on a page. We use this activity many times during the year, and it is incredible to see the development in the children's writing and drawing.
