Our local SPCA recently shared some great suggestions for easing pets into boarding kennel life while you go away on holiday. The last point suggests having a trial run, that is just the greatest advice ever!!! A perfect opportunity to iron out any glitches and build confidence for pets and their owners. Thank you uMngeni SPCA!
Preparing your pet for a stay at the boarding kennels
💙Make sure your pet is healthy: Proof of up-to-date vaccinations is required, so please bring your pet's medical records to the boarding kennels.
💙Bring familiar items: Pack your pet's favourite toys and bedding to help them feel comfortable and at ease. The known smell of items they love can help your pet to relax and feel safe.
💙Stick to their regular diet: uMngeni SPCA feeds from a range of donated sources so it is recommended to bring your pet’s food. This avoids a sudden change to your pet's diet and possible upset stomach.
💙Medication: Bring any medication and dosage instructions with your pet.
💙Use a comfortable carrier: Make sure your pet's carrier is familiar, secure and comfortable.
💙Be calm: Pets are sensitive to their owner's emotions, so try to stay calm, confident and relaxed during the drop-off.
💙Practice makes perfect: Consider a couple of days trial run to ensure your pet will cope and you will have peace of mind.
