The second leg of the Midlands Chess League, the Midlands Masters, concluded on Saturday, May 9th, at Cowan House Preparatory School. Despite a crisp morning, the sun soon emerged to match the bright performances of the 52 players representing 14 clubs and schools whogathered for a day of intense strategic battle. While many familiar competitors returned to defend their standings, the field was strengthened by several new faces, making the competition even fiercer and pushing both veterans and newcomers to their tactical limits.
Between rounds, the competition spilled out of the main arena as participants took advantage of the giant chess set and outdoor boards, keeping the spirit of the game alive even during breaks.
The Hilton Kids Chess Club delivered a standout performance, sweeping the podium in the U12 category and securing third place in the U16 division.
