Have you ever looked at a dusty vase in your attic or an old painting passed down through generations and wondered if it might secretly be worth a fortune? We all share a universal fascination with hidden treasures, a thrill largely fuelled by beloved television hits like the BBC's Antiques Roadshow. Now, you don't have to travel across the globe or apply for a TV show to experience that excitement. The magic of discovery is coming right to our doorstep.
On Saturday, the 4th of July 2026, the Hilton Municipal Hall will transform into a vibrant hub of history, nostalgia, and community spirit. Running from 9 am to 3 pm at 23 Hilton Ave, directly opposite the Shell Garage, the Hilton Antique Roadshow promises an unmissable day out for the whole family.
The undisputed highlight of the day will be the live, expert appraisals. From 10 am to 1 pm, the renowned Cannon’s Auctioneers will be on site to evaluate your family heirlooms, curious collectibles, and mysterious thrift store finds. For a nominal fee of just R20 per item, you can finally unlock the history and potential value of your belongings. Most importantly, every cent from these appraisal fees will be donated entirely to a deeply worthy local cause: the Atomic Shellhole which represents Hilton’s MOTH (Memorable Order of Tin Hats) members.
This event is far more than just an antique market; it is a vital celebration of our local heritage. Brought to life through a partnership between the Atomic Shellhole, Cannon’s Auctioneers, and the Hilton Municipality, the event honours the deep roots of our community. The Atomic Shellhole recently celebrated its monumental 80th birthday on the 25th of February 2026, making this a perfect opportunity for us to gather, celebrate their enduring legacy, and support their ongoing work.
Even if you don't have an item to appraise, the roadshow offers a rich tapestry of attractions designed to captivate everyone. The grounds will be bustling with a diverse array of stalls. Antique lovers and bargain hunters can browse unique pieces and memorabilia from vendors like Stanley's, Vintage Tools, Retro Collectibles, and the Himeville Museum. Hobbyists will find plenty to explore with dedicated displays from stamp collectors, and PMB Scuba and Airguns. You can also support local authors, as well as community pillars like the SPCA and Hospice, who will be offering second-hand items for a good cause.
A true community gathering is never complete without great food and a lively atmosphere. As you wander between stalls, the air will be filled with live music, setting a festive tone for the day. When hunger strikes, visitors will be spoiled for choice: you can indulge in a hearty meal from Cure House burgers, savour RJ Delights’ Indian cuisine, or relax with friends at the Hilton Buddies & MOTH tea garden.
At a parking/entry fee of just R10 per person, and with kids under 13 entering for free, the Hilton Antique Roadshow is incredibly accessible and offers exceptional value.
Whether you are an avid collector, a history enthusiast, or simply a local resident looking for a wonderful weekend activity, this is the place to be. Dust off those mysterious attic finds, gather the family, and join us on July 4th for a day of community connection and discovery. Who knows? The treasure of a lifetime might just be sitting in your living room.
