HILTON, KZN – The battle lines are drawn and the clocks are ticking! Chess enthusiasts and tactical maestros are invited to test their skills at the Midlands Classic, taking place on Saturday, 15 August 2026 at Cowan House Preparatory School.
Serving as the crucial third leg of the Midlands Chess League, this tournament raises the stakes for competitive players. Participants will not only fight for individual glory on the day but will also accumulate precious league points in their quest to claim the ultimate championship title at the end of the season.
The Midlands Classic features three playing divisions: Under 12, Under 16, and 16+ (Open), ensuring a competitive and welcoming environment for every age and skill level. Players are highly encouraged to take part, regardless of whether they have competed in previous league events.
The Midlands Chess League is made possible by a network of local partners, including Pam Golding Properties, whose support helps create opportunities for players to compete and enjoy the game of chess.
Beyond the bragging rights of a podium finish, winners will be rewarded for their tactical prowess with an incredible lineup of authentic local goods, luxurious treatments, and outdoor adventures. Prizes include treats from Debonairs Hilton, Steers Hilton, and Cakeaway. Additionally, The Nail Garden will spoil the Top Girls category winner, while The Nut Mill will reward the Senior Player category winner with a premium hamper.
The league will culminate in the season championship in November where the overall champions will compete for a premier prize package, including a stay for four at Waterford Manor and a month-long membership at Gym and Fitness Elite Club.
