If you work with children, make safeguarding part of your normal operating procedures.
Know:
• who is responsible for dealing with a safeguarding concern
• how staff should respond when a child discloses abuse
• how concerns are reported to the appropriate authorities
• whether required suitability checks have been completed for people working with or having access to children.
Don't investigate. Don't gossip. Don't blame the child. Don't share identifying information online.
Listen. Take concerns seriously. Preserve relevant information. Get the appropriate authorities or professional services involved.
Protecting children is a community responsibility.
