Rabies can infect any warm-blooded animal.
Rabies is a vaccine-preventable viral disease that occurs in more than 150 countries and territories.
Dogs are the main source of human rabies deaths, contributing up to 99% of all rabies transmissions to humans.
40% of people bitten by suspect rabid animals are children under 15 years of age.
There is no cure for rabies, and it is almost always fatal. Once clinical signs occur, an infected animal usually dies within five days.
The only way to test for rabies is by examination of the brain tissue of a dead animal. There is no way to test for rabies infection in a live animal.
An infected animal can only transmit rabies after the onset of clinical signs.
Make sure your pet is up to date with their rabies vaccinations. We offer free rabies to our clients. THIS IS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. Call 033 343 4316

Dear UCSI Supporters
The UCSI continues to play a significant role in our community fight against crime. The support offered to Security companies, SAPS and Law Enforcement and even the CPF groups is critical in monitoring who is moving in and out of our areas. The UCSI has been able to assist SAPS and the community with valuable support and information.
December was a strangely quieter month on the cameras. The positive hits were low but most hits were actioned with some sort of outcome, positive or negative.
UCSI Operational Stories
1st Dec: A vehicle was reported stolen in Boston. It was loaded to the response group. A quick response from Knight Security, Sompisi Protection, Magma security and Swartburg security resulted in the vehicle been stopped outside Mpophomeni. Vehicle was found to be legit, and it was cleared off snipr.
2nd Dec: Another stolen vehicle activated the camera in Hilton area. A search ensued in the Hilton CBD where the vehicle was found, stopped and investigated. Turns out that vehicle was legal but using false plates that were from a stolen vehicle. Thank you to SAPS, Knight security, Magma, Winterskloof, Red Alert, National and MI7.
2nd Dec: This time a stolen vehicle was activated on the UCSI/SAPS response group. Communication group was used to co-ordinate a search in Hilton area. Vehicle was found and recovered in Durban eventually.
3rd Dec: A member of public requested a check on a vehicle that may have been involved in house break-in. A search for movement was made when Read Alert security informed us that the vehicle had been stopped earlier and nothing was found. Vehicle was allowed to leave. Team work getting things done on time.
11 Dec: Vehicle alerted system in Boston area. Sompisi Backed up by Knight stopped the vehicle. Boston SAPS confirmed vehicle to be cleared and was allowed to continue.
11 Dec: A hi-jacked vehicle activated cameras in Merrivale. Vehicle did not match the description given but was followed and stopped by Sompisi and Magma. Vehicle was escorted to SAPS for Processing.

29 Dec: A Hilton report of attempted house break-in. With a description of the vehicle I managed to find a vehicle that matched. Residence member was very sure that vehicle was the one used in incident to lift gate. Various security companies searched for the vehicle, Cameras found vehicle arrive in Howick area where Knight security found and stopped it. Vehicle was cleared as occupants did not fit description given. Unfortunately the suspect vehicle was not found but the exercise proved that team-work even between competitive security companies works well.
30 Dec: During storm which closed the N3 an affiliated member of UCSI requested a check on a vehicle stuck on the highway. Young lady was been harassed by occupants in another vehicle. I managed to get to the vehicle with assistance from Umngeni traffic officer. Situation was diffused and Lady calmed. I continued with assistance in clearing trees from roads.
31 Dec: A murder suspect was apprehended by Security services after a camera activation outside Midmar Building Supplies. Following via cameras through Howick area vehicle was stopped, Driver arrested and vehicle impounded.. Thank you to Knight, Magma and SAPS.
A Big Thank You:
To Anew Hotel Hilton, Anthony and his team. They have sponsored WIFI data for one of our gantries. Together with their electricity we should never have down time again.
To SNIPR support for the donation of extra data in various gantries helping us keep costs down.
To I-Uncapped for sponsorship of wifi for the operations office and 2 gantries.
To Magma Security services, They are placing two gantries in Hilton area for UCSI viewing. This will give us better direction in looking for vehicles in CBD.
Other news from the office:
We have moved our office down the hall to form a hub point with HDLA, Fire protection and Midlands security. The projected Ops room is fully kitted out, so we will have a centralized point of contact for all information sharing. All that needs to be done is staffing. We have some ideas on how to and will be in contact with various stakeholders to assist.
Any suggestions would be most welcome though.

“On Monday 10th of January 2022 the KSS Control Room received a UCSI activation of a Golf that had been stolen in Durban North. Through a quick reaction and great communication from KSS and Magma the vehicle was stopped on Main Street (Howick) where the vehicle was recovered and one suspect was apprehended for possession of stolen vehicle”.

Just like being hungry can affect our mood, so can being dehydrated. If you frequently find yourself feeling nervous, easily irritated, or sluggish, you might be in need of some water.
One of the fastest and easiest ways to improve your mood is by drinking a glass (or two!) of water. Getting hydrated can quite literally calm your nerves.
Visit The Local Choice Pharmacy for trusted health advice.
Most dogs at some time will suffer from dental or gum disease. Even in puppy stages, problems with temporary teeth can occur, especially in smaller and mini breeds.
Doggy breath is a sign that dental problems may exist. If your pet has difficulty eating, is dribbling, has bleeding gums or you notice brown plaque (a substance coating the teeth), your pet will need a dental check. Bacteria and toxins present in an infected mouth will cause pain and can even affect heart and kidney function in extreme cases.
Our aim is for your pet to maintain healthy strong teeth and gums. Contact us today to make an appointment for a dental check-up. Let’s start the year fresh and in good health.

9pm: LOST//YOUTH
Lost//Youth are here to save you from the modern noise. The alt/rock band, formed in 2021, brings something new to the table while being reminiscent of bands from before their time. With acoustic elements, epic guitar solos and sincere lyricism, the group delivers a unique and yet nostalgic experience.
With diverse, anti-modern influences such as Foo Fighters, Fleetwood Mac, Tracy Chapman, KALEO and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, their music is hard to define - and that's exactly how they like it. Their upcoming two-part project, playing off the concepts of the light and dark, will help define their sound as malleable and yet inherently distinctive.
Lead singer Alanna Joy brings an amalgamation of fierce and tender elements through her vocal style and tells stories of love, heartbreak and searching for something more. The group's sound is driven by heavy, melodic bass played by Charlie Charles and driving, passionate electric guitar by Faghri Hendricks. Their drummer, Teddy Frazer, solidifies the sound and brings a modern touch to the rock rhythms played.
8pm: KRISTEN
Kristen is a KZN-born musician who started her solo career in Observatory, Cape Town, in 2017. She performed in and around Cape Town for two years before relocating to her hometown, Pietermaritzburg, where she founded and lead the Midlands-based band, Cactus Club.
In 2020 Kristen made the decision to focus on her solo work amidst the challenge of the pandemic and is currently finalizing the release of her first single.
7pm: WEBSTER FAMILY BAND
Music is a bit like breathing in the Webster family. Dad (Charles) started music as a young child. He and wife Tarrin have passed the genes on to daughters (Rachael and Rebecca) and son (Michael). Deeply rooted in the KZN Midlands music scene through, the family members also perform in various band incarnations as Bowstring, Hereditary and in other collaborations like Blackbird and Fill the Blank. The familial affection brings a special feel to the folk-pop-rock music that the Webster family typically plays - in acoustic style, with plenty of harmony and rhythm.
