It has been a very busy year in South Africa’s competitive specialty coffee scene, with five local coffee competitions already completed. Not forgetting the two internationals, which saw South Africa’s current best barista, Harry Mole, and the country’s current best cup taster, Thabang Maluleka and latte artist, Christopher Abrahams, compete at the World Coffee Championships in Boston and Berlin respectively.
Bonnie Braes at Quarry Cottages is a luxury two bedroomed fully equipped self-catering cottage centrally located in Hilton. The cottage is set in a spacious, well established secure garden with a pool and outdoor facilities.
The cottages are set in spacious well- established grounds with outdoor facilities and a swimming pool. Our security is good and the gardens are maintained on a daily basis.
We have a full-time manageress who lives on the property.
Jack’s Cottage is 2 bedroomed with queen bedded and a twin bedded room and bathroom with a bath. There is an outside shower. The rental is R8,000.00 per month plus electricity and water. (Kindly note that Jack's Cottage has been let.)
Orchard Cottage is 3 bedroomed with queen bedded room en suite and 2 twin bedded rooms which share a bathroom. The rental is R12,000.00 per month plus electricity and water.

Laddsworth Athletics Captains Jamie Kloppers and Jonathan Werth took part in the KwaZulu-Natal Athletics Sub-Youth Championship at Kings Park Athletics Stadium in Durban on 12 October 2019. This is the KZN Athletics main event for the Sub-Youth Championships (7 to 15 year age groups).
The results from this event will be used to select a Provincial team that will participate in the Inter-Provincial competition in November. This year, more than 650 athletes participated in the event.
Jamie Kloppers (Grade 7) won Gold in the 80m hurdles and came 4th in the 200m hurdles.
Jonathan Werth (Grade 7) came 5th in the 1500m and 10th in the 800m.
Well done to our Athletics Captains on their performances!

"I used to frequent the Copper Kitchen in the 70's and 80's. Saturday night there was a dinner dance. Sam and Wendy used to play. I took ten friends there for my 20th birthday. We had drinks in the lounge before dinner, starters, main course and desserts and wine with dinner. Coffee and liqueurs after. The total cost including a tip was R125. I remember some of the dishes and prices : Prawn Cocktail R1.25. Carpet Bagger steak R5.50. Crepes Suzette were around R1.00. We had to go in formal attire. Suits or at the very least slacks, a blazer and a tie. If you had no tie there was no admission. Moses, the Maitre D had spare ties available if you arrived without a tie." shared Mike Forsyth.
9:10pm Zeeroover - "History of the Blues"
Using percussive guitar and combining a blues electric sound, the duo, also known as "The Bone Collector (Eugene Viljoen) & the Carguard (Corrie Pretorius)" takes you on a journey back to the roots of the fathers of the Blues. The "Doc" and his trusty sidekick, whilst in the throes of launching their new "Humonculus" project with a full band, continue to play the circuit as a duo. "History of the Blues" is a fascinating story of hardship and triumph, and the documentation of these musical legends through song makes for an entertaining journey of the blues with a ZeeRoover twist.
8:20pm Ryno Theron
Ryno Theron is an innovative and unique solo, experimental fingerstyle guitarist from Durban. His sound is mostly instrumental, and layered with ambient textures, and accompanied by groovy percussion and bass lines through his fingerstyle technique, (playing drums, bass lines and melody, at the same time, on one guitar without looping).
He has spent the last two and a half years performing extensively as a solo artist, and with his trio. With 40 performances in 2017, and up to 60+ in 2018, these include performing at Splashy Fen, with The Nishalin Pillay Trio, and Smoking Dragon Festival, and The The Monteseel Music Festival with his Trio, and two short Gauteng tours solo. Future plans are to complete his second full length album, more collaborations, and more extensive touring of South Africa to promote the new album. He will be performing at Smoking Dragon Festival again this year, with his trio and this time on the Mainstream Stage.
7:30pm Pretty & the Music
Pretty Olifant is a witty, mischievous, unwavering, linguistic and free spirited soul. She is a social entrepreneur, brand manager, poet and vocalist. Born kwaMashu, raised in iMbali, Pietermaritzburg by a force of strong women, she has always been an explorer. Delivered flamboyantly and conscientiously, Pretty’s combined her love for music, married it with her first, poetry and goes by the name: Pretty & The Music, accompanied by Lotshiwe Tshabalala on guitar. Their eclectic sound zig-zags across a number of genres including African rhythm, soul, jazz, rhythm and blues, all with a underpinning undertone of poetry.
7pm Dylan Burczak
Dylan grew up right here in Hilton and, having been schooled locally at Laddsworth and Grace College, moved down the hill to Durban straight after matric. Dylan has played music in various church circles for six years, touring with the Arise Band locally and abroad. At the beginning of the year a new calling came knocking to move home and start up business venture. Joined by the multi-talented Andy Turrell, Dylan will be playing some familiar covers with one or two originals.

Bheki (pictured below on the RHS) obtained a Diploma in Business Management from Natal Technikon now known as Durban University of Technology in 1999.
Over the years he has been in the line of clothing and shoes manufacturing, supplying corporate companies and government departments for over 15 years. He was a director of respective companies operating in KwaZulu Natal, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Free State and Limpopo province.
Bheki is passionate about IT. His love and passion for IT started when he began a project called ‘Business In A Box’ where he rolled out refurbished and converted containers to be computer centres. The project was piloted in Estcourt.
He has been extensively involved with the SMME development in KwaZulu Natal. He was a board member of Estcourt Provincial Hospital - KZN Health Department. Bheki is now a Dynamic SA Holding and Digit IT Managing Director. He did a CompTIA A+N+ Training at IT Certification Academy.
FINANCIAL DIRECTOR
Althea (pictured below on the LHS) is a qualified black female chartered accountant. She began working at SNG in 2002 after completing her B.Comm Accounting Degree and CTA at University of Stellenbosch South Africa.
She worked for Chevron (Caltex), Thompson, Cobb, Bazillio and Associates, in many countries including United States, Pakistan, Angola, Kenya, Namibia, Nigeria and Zambia. Where she was performing internal, external and forensic audit services.
In 2010 Althea was appointed as board member to the Western Cape Gambling and Racing Board. During 2014 she was appointed as chairperson of the WCGRB. Currently she is also a Managing Director of Kuhumelela Accountants and Auditors.

St Anne’s Diocesan College hosted an Inter-schools Enduro 20km Relay Race at Camps Drift on Saturday.
The format was teams of four with a total of approximately 170 paddlers from 11 schools taking part.
Congratulations to Epworth who took first place in the Girls Open Category, followed by St Anne’s in second and St John’s DSG in third.
In the boys race, Michaelhouse took top spot followed by the Umzinyathi Development Team in second and Maritzburg College in third position.
