Laddsworth will be hosting ‘Despacito!’ on Saturday, 13 October at 19h00, in the School Hall.

The inaugural Hilton parkrun at Grace College on Saturday, 29 September 2018 welcomed a crowd of 953 participants. A parkrun is a free, weekly, timed, 5km run or walk. The course is suitable for prams and dogs on short leashes may join in. Thanks to the awesome group of parkrun volunteers, the event ran smoothly and feedback on the route was positive.

 

Both winners were first time parkrun entrants; Kelly Martin was the first lady home in a time of 22:07 minutes and the first gentleman in was Sabelo Zwane in a time of 18:35 minutes.

 

We look forward to many more active and social Saturday mornings at Grace College.

Reporting crimes
It is important that you report crimes – no matter how small – to your local SAPS. If you do not want to open a criminal case, then at least obtain an Incident Report Number (IR Number). SAPS need to keep statistics of crimes committed in their areas so that they can make valid appeals to Provincial and National SAPS for additional manpower and vehicles. Knight Security Solutions Operations staff cannot open a criminal case or report an incident on behalf of a client. You have to do it yourself – this is how the system works. KSS can guide and advise you, but the victim/owner has to deal with SAPS directly.

Cable theft
Cable theft is still a serious problem. Please report cable theft immediately to the KSS Control Room on 033 3305911. KSS are working alongside local SAPS and other key role players in combatting this serious crime.

John Ellis is a singer-songwriter from Durban, South Africa. The principal member, guitar-player, vocalist and songwriter for the internationally renowned and award-winning band Tree63, he relocated back to his hometown from America after many years of international success to pursue a solo career.

 

R&B Singer, Songwriter, Actor and Presenter Sphiwe Hadebe was born in 1992 in Ladysmith, KZN. He writes his own lyrics and composes his own music, and for other artists. He also covers other artists such as Sam Smith, Chris Brown, Trey Songs, Usher, Whitney Houston, and local artists such as Ntando, and Soul Brothers.

 

In 2012, Sphiwe made it through to the 3rd round of SA's Got Talent and got to be on TV for the first time. In 2013 he made it to finals of the local competition “REP YOUR LOXION” as the only Singer going head to head against rappers. He is currently working on his debut Album to be titled “ Lomculo” and will soon be releasing his first EP in the form of a live DVD, which he says is his way of showing that he is more than just a studio singer but he is able to perform live.

The Reid Family Band has been years in the making, jamming together for many years. Vincent had an interest in music from a young age and is mainly self-taught. He plays keyboards, guitar and recently, tin whistle. Rhiannon, who is 16 and with the help of Kech Sanchez, has honed her skills on guitar, sings lead vocals. Aidan, who is 11 years old, showed musical abilities from a very young age, also sings.

Nick de Scally, who is in Gr11 at Grace College, represented KZN in the national schools athletics event in Bloemfontein on Saturday, 13 October. He won the 800m race, running his personal best time, which is now 1:54. This result was only just off the record by 1 second, a record which Johan Cronje, a world championship bronze medalist, has held for the last 20 years. It is also the longest standing record for the Grey Bloemfontein Athletics event. Nick followed this awesome success with a 4th position in the demanding 1500m.

Lara Kirsten is a pianist and performance poet (picture credit: Through my Lens; Gideon Vewas)

 

After completing her high school career at the National School of the Arts in Johannesburg, Lara received her BMus and BMus Honours degrees (both cum laude) respectively in 2001 and 2005, at the University of Pretoria. In 1998 she received the Piano Grade 8 certificate from UNISA with distinction. In 1999 she was awarded a SAMRO bursary for undergraduate students and received the Advanced Certificate for Piano from The Royal Schools of Music. In 2002 she received her chamber music licentiate from UNISA. She was appointed junior lecturer at the University of Pretoria where she taught piano from 2003 to 2005. From the end of 2005 to 2008 she went on tour with the improvising cellist Francois le Roux over the roads of SA, Europe and the USA. For the past decade Lara has been active as both a solo and chamber musician. For the last 4 years Lara has been based in the Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal from where she travels with her concert tours. She also teaches piano from her home.

 

As performance poet: Lara balances the strict discipline of the art music with the writing and performance of her own poetry in Afrikaans and English. On occasion she combines poetry with movement, visual art, photography and music. In August 2007 she made her debut as a performance poet with the one-woman piece "Ingrid Jonker Dans Weer". She performed her first extensive installation art and poetry piece, "Frames", at the Fook Festival in Somerset-East in 2008. This work consisted of eight poems which were performed in eight different rooms with dialoguing installation art, costume and movement. In 2009 she made her debut in The Netherlands in the show "Op het Punt van Aanraken" (featuring music improvised by Francois le Roux, photography by Carmen Gonzalez and poems written and performed by Lara). In 2009 she was commissioned to write and perform poetry for the 60th Anniversary of the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria, taking a strong view on what it is to be an Afrikaner today.

St John & Tanya are an emotive vocal – piano ensemble with jazz & blues influences.. The duo sing & play with a passion that resonates with the audience in an emotional & soulful way. Bringing vocal laid back jazz with twists to contemporary numbers, St John & Tanya display their belief that without “heart”…music is lost.

Auburn Sound is a trio. Robyn Hunt sings lead vocal. She is a COPA trained and a closet bass player. Mark Hunt shares the vocals and plays acoustic guitar. Tristen Gwynn plays bass. He is equally at home on the acoustic and electric guitar and ukelele. We play mostly covers of popular songs from various genres. We host and play at an open mic at the Royal Natal Yacht Club every Saturday afternoon.

The Laddsworth Grade 4, isiZulu class celebrated Heritage day by dressing in traditional clothing and enjoying a feast of traditional Zulu Food.

Laddsworth Primary School’s Grade 7 pupils enjoyed performing ‘The Wizard’ to their Grandparents on Tuesday 11 September and to their parents and friends at two evening performances on Wednesday 12 September and Thursday 13 September.
