A message from the Hilton Ratepayers Association

HRA coverFinally, the inevitable has happened and we will shortly be in lockdown. It’s clearly a necessary step and we are sure that Hilton residents will adhere to all the conditions and restrictions. The HRA wishes the best for all Hilton residents and the whole country. May we come through this process with as little suffering and harm as possible.
 
We suggest that everyone use this period to consider the type of community that we would like to live in and what should be done once this difficult period is over. We already live in a very special place with a very special community, but we need to consider how we could make it even better. A bit of reflection and sharing of ideas over this period will help us to hit the ground running once the lockdown is over.
 
As a starter, I am sure we all want a safer and more attractive environment- a place where we do not react to crime but where crime does not come - a place that is well kept and tidy that makes you feel good to just be alive. This can be done.
 
The HRA is investigating the establishment of a Special Rating Area. We believe that a well-managed SRA could achieve the above. We suggest you use the time at home to Google SRA’s and see what they are about. Many have been established throughout the country and we will consult widely and have an informed debate. You will not be confronted with any surprises.
 
Once again best wishes and we hope to hear from as many ratepayers as possible with views and suggestions as to the way ahead. Hopefully, this crisis will give us some time for reflection.

Lockdown update for Knight Security Solutions

“All Security Companies operating within the Private Security Sector should be operational to ensure they provide the core function as a security provider to the public and their valued clients”.

KSS will be fully operational, 24/7 during the 21 day lockdown.

The KSS Armed Response, Alarm Monitoring Control Room, Guarding Division and core support functions will all be operating 24/7 to ensure the safety of our clients and our community. Technical back-up is available, and technicians are on-call to assist with repairs to alarm systems should they be required.

Please contact our 24hour Control Room on 033 330 5911, where one of our competent Controllers will assist you or re-direct your call as necessary.

KSS is in full support of all Emergency Services and Law Enforcement Officials during this time.

KSS Management have ensured the health and safety of our entire KSS staff. KSS has a transport contingency plan in place should the need arise to assist our staff to report for shift.

KSS Administration staff have been equipped to work from home, and are ready and prepared to assist with any enquiries.

Please remember, KSS is classified as an essential service, but we are a private company and not funded by the government like SAPS or the Military. Please may we request timeous payment of your account, as it is important for us to remain fully operational, look after our clients, the community and our staff.

IMPORTANT NOTICE - Refuse Collection for next 21 days

uMngeni refuse collection as follows from Friday 27th March for 21 days.

Collection will take place on the same days as usual but, to minimise the exposure of collectors and the public, COLLECTIONS WILL TAKE PLACE AT NIGHT. Staff will come on duty at 1800 [6pm] and residents must put their bags out in the late afternoon.

The refuse site will be closed to the general public.
Only the municipal refuse trucks and those contracted to the municipality for refuse removal ie Garlington & the Ambers will be admitted.

No garden refuse will be accepted at the landfill site.
 
METER READING - APRIL 2020
Due to the lockdown, we will not be able to fo on site and read meters.  Kindly use the following details to submit your readings, we will try to capture as many readings as we can for the month of April. Submission of meter readings will work via EMAIL and SMS only do not call the numbers provided.

21 days can close a business, you can help. Pay it foodward.

hilton pay it foodwardWe applaud the thinking behind this awesome initiative which, with all of our support, will ease some of the strain which lockdown has imposed 'Charity and giving has always been a part of my life and something close to my heart. About 6 months ago I met with my team at Temple and we spoke about how we could support charity, whether it was our time, services or financially. Carmen put her hand up to be the designated charity project manager and came up with some ideas which we were working through and wanting to support.
 
2-3 weeks ago when Covid 19 really hit South Africa, we were all wondering what was going to happen to us and our businesses. Last week Monday Carmen found a website in the States called Save our Favs, which was a fantastic idea and we got started on a local version, to help our favourite local coffee establishments and restaurants.
 
Well what a week it has been, the whole team rallied behind the cause and I am proud to say we launched https://payitfoodward.co.za. We are able to carry on working remotely, but these establishments are not able to work at all, and what was scary was this fact: "21 days can close a business. Restaurants have loads of fixed costs: rent, labour, loan repayments, insurance, supplies, repairs – the list goes on. Even successful restaurants have slim margins of 3-5%, and a third have struggled to pay employees at least once.”
 
We have put this site up for the community to help, and the thought of not being able to meet for a coffee after my weekend morning run or cycle was too scary to fathom. All I ask is to help where you can, purchase a voucher to redeem later when we are all working again, and help save a local business.
 
We are sponsoring the work and hosting admin, and the only fee currently is the Payfast fee of 3.5% which we have asked to be waivered (still waiting for them to confirm) the site is safe and secure and payments are through Payfasts merchant system. You can pay or donate using Card, EFT and Zapper.

Practice Lockdown Protocol for 27 March to 16 April

Our respective branches will continue to stay open for appointments only.
 
Consulting hours for Urgent Cases Only:
- Hospital: Mon to Fri: 8-12pm and 4-5pm, Sat: 8-12pm, Sun: 10-12pm
- Umgeni: Mon to Fri: 8-12pm and 4-5pm, Sat: 8-11am
- Townbush: Mon to Fri: 8-10am and 4-5pm, Sat: 8-10am

Consultations by appointments only: please make appointments by phone.
We will divide our staff into separate teams, ensuring the best care and safety for you.
On arrival, please announce yourself first to the reception staff, you may wait in your vehicle and will be called in when you are ready to be seen.
Only 1 healthy person to accompany pet. Other persons will need to wait in their car.
Disinfectant will be provided on entering and exiting the practice. Please cover your face with a mask or material. Please avoid touching any surfaces unnecessarily.
You will be directed into a consulting room once entering the practice.
Consulting rooms will be thoroughly disinfected before and after each consult.
We are available for telephonic consults and telephonic advice and the dispensing of medication will be at the vet’s discretion.
Please keep a 1.5m distance at all times. Please wait behind the line at reception until instructed further.
Please phone ahead for repeat scripts and dog food.
We will not be doing any routine procedures or house visits during the lock down.
Contactless payment is preferred. Card payments will be safely instructed by the receptioinist.
 
As a practice we follow strict hygiene measures before opening and during working hours, including daily temperatures as well as strict hand sanitization.

Hilton Vet Hospital available for essential services during lock down period

HIlton Vet BH newsThe SAVC (South African Veterinary Council)
has been informed by the South African government that Veterinary services have been deemed as an essential service to protect animal rights.

During the lock down period, Hilton Veterinary Hospital will endeavour to meet all essential services to animals presented to them or in need of
treatment. No non-essential services will be provided.
Examples of essential services are sick animals, injured animals, animals requiring preventative care from zoonotic diseases such as rabies, and prevention of starvation. Special needs diets will also need to be supplied during this period.

As we take COVID-19 at the highest level of importance, all our current staff from high density areas and those needing to use public transport have been exempt from coming to work. All our staff will wear protective masks.  Any staff member with any major or minor symptoms, have been requested to stay at home
and self-isolate. They are to alert us with their condition and contact the COVID-19 emergency number 08000 29999 for further guidance.  Sanitizers will be supplied throughout the hospital as is the standard protocol and sanitizers will be actively supplied at our doors as well to
anyone entering the hospital. 
 
We request that all animal owners that require our services adhere to the following protocol:

Phone ahead to book an appointment, so that we may space out the number of people visiting the hospital at any one time.
 
Where possible pre-arrange any necessary paper work to limit your time spent at the hospital.

If your animal has any problem necessitating veterinary services during the lock down and you have any major or minor flu symptoms or have
any reason to suspect you were in contact with anyone with COVID-19, please self-isolate and contact the COVID-19 number for further guidance, and send your animal to us via a noninfected person using a minimal manner of contact.

If you so wish any animal prearranged may be handed to us through the door without making physical contact with us.

Visiting animals in hospital will be strictly for the critically ill patients only and will be carefully orchestrated.

All high risk people, including the aged and people with pre-existing conditions are requested to send their animals with another low risk healthy
person.
By pre-arrangement and pre-payment, you can collect essential preventative treatments and diets from us without coming into the hospital.
Upon your arrival they will be placed in a container outside the door.

We wish all fellow South Africans all the best during this difficult time and will endeavour to serve the community and their animals at the
highest level in the safest manner possible.

The full statement is included, President Cyril Ramaphosa: Escalation of measures to combat Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic. Following the announcement text, included are our interpretation notes, to assist you to understand the relevant links and information for relevant relief applications.

Temporary Relief Measures (TRM)
Should you not be able to afford to employ staff due to reduced income, the Department of Labour Temporary Relied Measures (TRM) are available to for staff to claim. This measure is in place to prevent retrenchments. I understand that this is available for up to three months of relief.

Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF)
Should the business still not be able to pay staff salaries, the next stage will be implemented, in terms of the disaster management plan. Several businesses are operating on a no work no pay basis. Others have staff working remotely.

Please consult carefully with your Human Resources consultant or attorney, to ensure you have exhausted all avenues before reaching this stage. It is very important that this step is implemented correctly. There could be retrenchment concerns to consider. When done correctly, UIF will be paid to the employee on a Reduced Work Time basis.

Workmen’s Compensation
Workmen’s compensation claims can be made for employees who have fallen sick with COVID 19 in the workplace. This could mean that multiple employees would be sick with COVID 19 for one employee to fall sick; Or the employee was required to travel to a place, for business purposes, where they contracted the virus while attending to business. Please be clear when making claims.

Employment Tax Incentive (ETI)
An additional incentive has been put in place for employees already qualifying for ETI. As noted above employers with employees earning less than R6,500 per month and in the correct age bracket will receive an additional R500 ETI deduction from PAYE. This is above the standard ETI in place. Please make sure your payroll system includes these updates before completing your April payroll.

Solidarity Fund
Government has enabled a private s18A fund to assist in relief measures for COVID 19. At this stage, the fund is asking for donations to assist in relief measures. http://www.solidarityfund.co.za/. No additional information is available on the measures. Announcements will be made in the future.

PAYE Relief
Tax compliant businesses with a turnover of less than R50 million will be allowed to delay 20% of their pay-as-you-earn liabilities over the next four months and a portion of their provisional corporate income tax payments without penalties or interest over the next six months. This intervention is expected to assist over 75 000 small and medium-term enterprises.

Other

There are other relief measures in progress of being implemented via an application process, including the:
 
1. Department of Small Business Development. The website does not seem to be working but here is some information. https://nationalgovernment.co.za/units/view/37/department-of-small-business-development-dsbd;
2. Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) – Comment from Minister of Trade and Industry to the press on the Issuance of Covid 19 National Disaster Regulations and Directions. Further developments can be followed on https://www.thedti.gov.za/
3. Banks are looking at relief measures on finance and repayment holidays. Please consult your local bank.

By the time you read this article a number of these items will have changed. We are living in a challenging time. Please take the Escalation of measures to combat Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic seriously. Your isolation will assist in flattening the curve and spread of the virus. Your isolation will reduce the number of days that we remain in lock down. 26 March 2020 is lockdown day Isaiah 26:20 says “Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself for a little while until this wrath has passed by.” The 16th of April is the end of the Passover. We will be praying for you all during this time. Stay safe and stay healthy.
